FDR In Summary
Participants are responsible for their own decision-making.
FDRP’s must be neutral and impartial. They cannot take sides.
FDRP’s can provide information but cannot give advice. They can help you explore parenting and property disputes in a positive future focused way.
Parents/parties present the content & FDRP’s control the process.
FDRP’s set the rules as to how parties communicate and behave within the process.
FDR requires open and transparent communication however there is also confidentiality within and outside of the process.
FDR is not counselling or therapy. It does not focus on past events. It concentrates on resolving specific disputes with a forward-thinking & child focussed approach.
Before FDR can commence, an assessment will be made to see whether FDR is suitable for your situation.
When FDR is not working, the FDR practitioner can suggest other options, such as family counselling, individual therapy or further legal advice/advocacy.
